Day 24 - Edith Falls to Jabiru, Kakadu National Park - Tuesday 22nd August 2017

Today we drove from Edith Falls to Kakadu National Park with a brief stop at Pine Creek at the turnoff the Stuart Highway before heading to Jabiru. Along the way we stopped firstly at the Warradjan Cultural Centre where we were able to read and see stories about country and the indigenous heritage of this area as well as an extensive display of local flora and fauna. Then it was off to Cahills Crossing on the East Alligator River where there is a lovely little boardwalk close to where the boat cruises set off from. Needless to say we walked the boardwalk and enjoyed the scenery and birdlife. Then it was back to the campground at Jabiru where we found we were given a site with it's own ensuite. It was still very hot so we went for a swim before dinner. After dinner we went and listened to an indigenous ranger give a talk on "behind the scenes" management of Kakadu National Park with particular emphasis on indigenous involvement including such activities as mosaic burning to reduce fire risk along with other indigenous land management tactics. The evening was so hot our air conditioner struggled somewhat but we did manage to get some sleep in the end.
