The whale watching tour that we had booked had been changed from a 10 a.m. start to a 3 p.m. start which didn't worry us given that we'd woken to a cloudy, overcast morning. So instead we went for a morning walk up to the headland lookout followed by a short snorkel in the bay area. The corals in close were somewhat damaged but further out they were much more impressive and we even got to see a giant clam. So many small coloured fish further enhanced the experience. Following this and after a short shower we waited outside the park for the bus which was to take us to the jetty. The jetty was quite busy so we had to wait a while before boarding. Once we were on our way we spotted some humpback dolphins and a leopard shark before finally seeing our first whale which was quite inactive. A little while later we found a much larger whale with two companions who all put on quite a show for us outside the outer reef. Our skipper Jessie was quite an impressive lady with her knowledge of the local habitat and her boat handling skills. All in all a wonderful day.
