Day 88 - Aireys Inlet to home - 25 October 2017

We drove what, by now, seems a short distance from Aireys Inlet to home arriving around lunchtime. And so ends an epic journey around the western half of Australia. I think it hasn't quite hit us as yet - neither were prepared for the feeling that we wished we could continue travelling. This too shall pass though. Now to unpack the motorhome.

Day 87 - Yambuk Lake to Aireys Inlet - 24 October 2017

Drove to Aireys Inlet today to stay at the home of a close friend and to have dinner with him at the Aireys Inlet hotel. Along the way we stopped and viewed the sights at all the lookouts along the way on the Great Ocean Road including the 12 Apostles, London Bridge etc. etc. A coffee break was had at Port Campbell, another pretty little town. We arrived at around 5 p.m. and found our friend at home on his own (his partner was in Melbourne for a day or two) and we then spent the next several hours having dinner and catching up on each other's lives.

Day 86 - Robe to Yambuk Lake - 23 October 2017

On a cool and cloudy morning we set off on quite a rough road through Radiata Pine forests en route to Mount Gambier. Here we visited the famous Blue Lake which had yet to turn blue this year but it was still very beautiful. Then it was on to an unusual geological feature know as the Umpherston Sinkhole which has been adapted to accommodate a beautiful garden. We explored this in full before driving on across the border to Nelson in Victoria where we walked to the main surf beach. One of our friends is quite attached to this little township and I can see why - it is quaint and beautiful. On leaving Nelson we headed to our destination for the night, the delightful small camping ground at Yambuk Lake. Our site with views over the river was simply the best. A walk to the beach among native bush and wildflowers topped off the day.

Day 85 - Semaphore to Robe - 22 October 2017

Left Semaphore quite late in the morning having gone to find a supermarket and the local Coles not opening until 11 a.m. On the road we set off down the highway to the Coorong with a view to exploring the Coorong wetlands. They turned out to be a little disappointing by my estimation but Sue found them quite pretty. We stopped for coffee at Meningie and later for lunch at Kingston SE. Had a bit of grocery shopping at KIngston before pushing on to Robe where we set up in a very well maintained little camping ground. It even boasted an indoor swimming pool but both of us were too tired to take advantage of this. An evening walk along the beach and nearby headland rounded out the day nicely.
