Day 77 - Jerramungup to Hopetoun via Ravensthorpe Part 1 - 14 October 2017

The 161 km drive today was extraordinary in the amount and variety of wildflowers along the route. Well worth having gone this way. Ravensthorpe was interesting as the site of an excellent example of silo art as well as regrettably the site nearby of a massacre of indigenous peoples back in 1880. On arrival at Hopetoun we booked in to a somewhat unusual camping ground insofar as sites were not clearly marked and hidden among tea tree but notwithstanding this it turned out to be a lovely park with a very welcoming manager. Wanting to visit Fitzgerald River National Park we reserved a site by leaving our camping table and a witches hat to mark our spot. We then drove west to Hamersley Inlet via East Mount Barren on what turned out to be a spectacularly beautiful drive. We stopped at East Mount Barren so that Sue could walk some distance up Mount Barren and as I was still not feeling well I stayed with the motorhome. Hamersley Inlet was the starting point for many walks but unfortunately time did not permit. Along the route we stopped at a couple of beautiful windswept beaches and went for walks along same. Back at Hopetoun we got out the Weber Baby Q and had ourselves a barbecue dinner before an evening of "Home Fires" and "Doc Martin" on television to round out a perfect day.
