Day 3 - Barmera to Port Augusta - Tuesday 1st August 2017

We woke this morning to a very chilly day initially. Looking out the window we could barely see anything on account of the fog that had settled in overnight. After breakfast we set off on a very rough road namely the Goyder Highway heading to the beautiful small and historic town of Morgan situated on a bend of the Murray River. Here we had lunch before setting off again, this time to Burra, another picturesque historic town probably established as a result of  what is now a State Heritage Area encompassing the old open cut copper mine site which ceased operations in 1981 after first being mined in 1845. After exploring the town on foot we then set off for Port Augusta travelling via Crystal Brook and Port Pirie. Not sure quite where we stayed in Port Augusta suffice to say our notes record it as being "cheap" and the facilities block being pretty ordinary. Sue knocked up a delicious spaghetti bolognese with salad for dinner and we then settled back to watch a movie before bed.
