Our alarms went off at 05:15 Melbourne time this morning to allow time to wake up and get ourselves to the sunrise viewing spot for Uluru before dawn. After a quick cup of tea we left the rest area at 06:20 and drove to Talinguru Nyakunytjaku viewing place to witness a beautiful spectacle as the first of the sun's rays hit Uluru. I might add it was very cold but still well worth it. On leaving here we drove to the Mala walk car park to go on a ranger guided walk but it turned out we were too early as this was scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. Instead we then drove to the Kunya walk car park and went on what was a relatively short walk to the Mutitjulu waterhole before then returning to the Mala walk car park. We were then led by an indigenous guide on what proved to be a very interesting tour with a great deal of information to absorb including the boys' initiation site as well as some rock art. Leaving here we returned briefly to our overnight rest area to have a quick bite for lunch and to secure a site for the night by leaving a camping table out. Then it was back for our last walk of the day commencing at the Mala walk parking area and doing the Lungkata walk. We managed to get tv reception once at the Uluru Caravan Park (we had booked this site the previous day) so settled in for dinner and a night watching Four Corners and Australian Story on ABC.
